There are a few contenders for "most recognizable instrument", but the Fender Jazz Bass is definitely one of them. This genuinely incredible 1960 Jazz Bass (first year of their production!!) has had quite a life: the lightweight alder body was refinished black at some point, with the maple neck and headstock refinished to match, along with the fretboard being replaced with a brand new Brazilian rosewood board to bring the bass closer to original condition. A vintage style Fender logo was added to the headstock over the black overspray.
At one point, the body was routed for an additional switch. The pickguard and pickups are original, although the neck pickup has been rewound by Lindy Fralin to restore its functionality, and the pickguard has had a hole plugged by genuine pre-CBS Fender celluloid. The stacked-knob electronics are replacements, although the original modified control plate is included in the case and clearly shows the stacked-knob configuration.
The neck profile is a very comfortable larger C shape, making for both substantial feel but easy playability, with its 1 1/2 replaced bone nut as well. The nickel bridge, tailpiece, and tuners are all original. This bass has been given another life- and will last for countless decades now. Serial #50791 comes with a non-original hard case.
