The L-4C was introduced in 1949 right alongside its much more popular cousin, the ES-175, and has much in common with its electrified relative, namely the recognizable body shape and the same scale length. But while the 175 is an all laminate body, the L-4C sports a solid spruce top along with its laminate back and sides, making for a more resonant guitar.

This example from 1954, (one of only 66) is in decent condition, with some noticeable wear on the top that only serves to accentuate how playable and played in this great old guitar is. There is a good amount of checking all over, which is obviously common for something of this era. The pickup is gone, and the binding is the glorious yellow color old Gibson binding fades into over time. The frets are low, but still very playable! The neck is an extremely comfortable D shape, very indicative of that era of Gibson's production. Hardware (tailpiece and non-original Grover tuners, the original Klusons are long lost to history) are reasonably worn, but still function great and have years left in them.

The neck is a comfortable 1 11/16th inch width, with a scale of 24.75".

There was previously a pickup installed and an output jack added to the lower bout of the guitar, but the pickup has been removed and the jack left in place, not hooked up to anything, so this is your chance to add your pickup of choice! 1950's Gibson archtops are hard to come by, so now's your chance for guitar history at a great price! Serial #A 22100 comes with the original hardshell case.
