Velazquez 1990 Classical Guitar, German Spruce & Brazilian Rosewood

ABOUT THE BUILDER

A lovely classical guitar made by world-renowned luthier Manuel Velazquez! In the realm of classical guitars, Velazquez has built up a sterling reputation, and this instrument speaks to dedication to his craft. Born in Puerto Rico in 1917, Manuel learned to build guitars as a teen. He opened his own shop in NYC in 1941 and built guitars in the traditional European style, producing instruments that stood shoulder to shoulder with his contemporaries in Spain and Germany. Legendary musicians, including Andrés Segovia, Sabicas and Paul Simon (just to name a few!) played Velazquez guitars throughout their careers - perhaps the best acclaim any luthier could hope for. Here at the shop, we are always thrilled to get our hands on Manuel’s fine craftsmanship and this example is delightful as expected.

A TRADITIONAL MASTERPIECE

This example was crafted in 1990 by Manuel when he was living in Virginia. It has a lovely German Spruce top and a Brazilian Rosewood back & sides. The neck is mahogany with an ebony fingerboard. A beautiful and intricate rosette adorns this guitar's soundhole. The top has been braced in the traditional Torres style, which is typical of Velazquez’s guitars.

This instrument delivers a very traditional classical playing experience and sound. It is a highly elevated and refined example of a classical guitar can be - both elegant and functional. Come on in and check out this amazing classical guitar!
