An 8-string baritone guitar opens the door to a fantastic new tonal palette. It serves up a husky lower-register voicing (it’s tuned from B to B) with a touch of octave sparkle on two middle strings. Beyond dropping songs into a more comfortable vocal range, it makes a really cool musical tool for recording or live gigs — imagine an acoustic singer-songwriter duo with one acoustic guitar capo’d up, a baritone 8, and two voices. Or to bring to jam sessions with friends. Or just for fresh songwriting inspiration. The baritone also lives in the musical range of vintage acoustic blues (12-strings used to be downtuned to make them playable). This limited edition features our classic baritone body style, the bold-voiced Grand Symphony, and the wood pairing of sapele back and sides with a mahogany top. Both have dry tonal properties with a strong fundamental response that suits a baritone 8 (with a baritone’s lower fundamental notes, the high-pitch overtone series can interfere with other notes, so dry-sounding woods tend to be preferred for baritones). Standard 300 Series appointments fit the baritone vibe with a satin finish and a shaded edgeburst around the dark mahogany top. Played through our ES2 electronics, the guitar can unleash a deep and rich sonic presence.
