For Martin, the 00-28 is a tried and true model, with its original debut all the way back in 1898. It took on many changes, and by 1926 it was ready for its biggest change yet, the steel string. This early example serves as a transition piece, with a larger 1 7/8" nut width, 12-fret construction. As previously stated, it was one of the first years that the 00-28 model was designed for steel string use, the resulting X-brace pattern offered a major upgrade and the steel string design makes it a modern and familiar sound. This guitar has a lovely sound, with a sound output far louder than modern 00-sized guitars. The nicely figured Brazilian rosewood back and sides are a perfect pairing for the spruce top. This example had had bridge plate holes plugged and redrilled, along with an extra piece of spruce between the maple bridge plate and spruce top added, bridge plate has wood glue squeeze out instead of hide glue, the top and back cracks have been previously repaired. The pickguard is replaced, and comes with a non original hardcase.
