The Martin D-45 was created especially for the "Singing Cowboy" Gene Autry in 1933, when he ordered "the biggest, fanciest Martin he could." The guitar was then produced as a factory standard model until 1942, when the war forced production of such high-end models to cease. Martin brought the model back into regular production in 1968 and never paused its creation again. One of the most iconic guitar models from the oldest guitar maker in America, the D-45 has been played by tons of major artists, including David Crosby, Marty Stuart, Stephen Stills, John Mayer and Roger Waters. After Gene Autry, though, this Martin model is perhaps most often associated with Neil Young; the D-45 has always been Young's main guitar on which he wrote countless songs.

This particular instrument is from 1988 and is in excellent structural condition, and very good aesthetic condition. We performed a necessary neck reset and did some slight repair on the heel cap. There was a repaired back crack when we purchased it that is stable, and some scratches from regular use mainly on the back of the guitar. Some more very small scratches on one edge of the soundhole. Otherwise it has been maintained very well and plays perfectly. This beauty is ready to find a new home!

Serial #476943. Comes with original hardshell case.
