This 1941 D'Angelico Special was purchased by its original owner, one Mr. Hayhurst, directly from John D'Angelico who built it for him. (See original bill of sale in photos, which is included with the guitar.) Since Mr. Hayhurst's passing, the guitar has been in the possession of his daughter who later contacted us to help find a new home for it. Mr. Hayhurst had installed a very rare jazz pickup made by Gretsch, probably installed by D'Angelico as was the custom for owners who could bring their guitars back to their original builder for maintenance.
Our tech repaired a top crack, which is now stable. Other than that, the guitar is in pristine condition. Beautiful aged spruce top, maple back and sides. Custom pickguard.
Serial #1529. Comes with its original hardshell case and original bill of sale.
