The Gibson L-5 is one of the most iconic guitar designs of all time. Designed by venerable Gibson acoustic engineer Lloyd Loar in the early '20s, the L-5 is absolutely the standard of jazz guitar playing and is recognized worldwide for its association with numerous guitar players, such as Scotty Moore (Elvis), Hank Garland (Nashville legend), Pat Martino, Django Reinhardt, Lee Ritenour, and more.
This is an incredibly clean example from 1947 and has been examined, cleaned, and set up to the best degree by our in-house techs.
The solid maple back, neck, and sides are incredibly flamed, with gorgeous, transparent flames sparkling in the sunlight. The neck is comfortable, just burgeoning on slightly large C shape. The solid spruce top looks to be as shiny as it was on the day it left the factory, with the original finish in almost new condition for a guitar that's older than Rock & Roll itself. This guitar was produced in a batch of guitars that were some of the last to bear the "Script logo," famous from a golden era of Gibson's history.
The guitar is set up with low action, with .012-.052 gauge flatwound D'Addario Chromes.
