Adding to our collection of incredible D'Angelico guitars we're so excited to share, is this gorgeous 1949 New Yorker, and it's one of the most acoustically present and punchy D'Angelicos we've had.
The New Yorker features Art Deco stylings influenced by the New York City skyline, and is gorgeously appointed. This guitar features a solid carved spruce top, gorgeous flamed maple back and sides, ebony fingerboard and bridge, and gold hardware. All parts are original, except for the pickguard which has been replaced (as is customary with most guitars of the era). The lower bout width is 18 inches.
This guitar has a thin vintage nitro finish in Blonde, which is over the unbelievable flame maple back and sides, as well as a lovely tight grained sitka spruce top. At one point it was routed for a pickup but the void has been plugged with matching spruce. The guitar is now fitted with a DeArmond Rhythm Chief 1100 and volume control. This guitar is dated on the Ledger as being from 5/4/49. Serial #1819, comes with a vintage tweed hardshell case.
