Easily on the rarest guitars to come in in recent memory, this 1958 Gibson Byrdland is next level cool. A handcarved spruce top with a carved figured maple back and solid sides make this a truly special archtop. Designed to be plugged in, it sounds glorious thanks to the original narrow spaced gold PAF pickups. Every part of this guitar is made with the best attention to detail and a joy to play. This Byrdland is the best that Gibson was offereing and a shining example of the quality of late '50s design with gold PAF's present and clear.
This example has a replaced bridge tone pot, missing the pickguard, knobs replaced, refretted, replaced nut, replaced ABR-1 bridge and an added varitone. The varitone appears to function as a high pass filter. There are several splice repairts done to the body top on the treble side/near electronics. The original PAF pickups have had the pickup covers removed at some point, with more wire added to the neck pickup lead, string ground resoldered. The pots can shielding has been opened to wire in the varitone. The wing of the headstock has been repaired by the high E tuner. Weighs 7.1lbs, serial # A-29469, comes with the original Lifton case which has been painted black. Please refer to the provided photos for more detail on the condition. As with all of our vintage listings, included is a vintage spec sheet which details and repairs & changes of note.
