Gibson 1959 Les Paul Standard, Left-Handed
The rarest of the rare. A standard 1959 Gibson Les Paul is one of the most coveted instruments ever made. Of the roughly 650 that were made by Gibson that year, it is likely that fewer than 4 were made to be LEFTY which makes this guitar a true unicorn to the vintage guitar collector.
This Les Paul has only had two owners in its 67 years of life. Here is a short blurb from the second owner about how they acquired the guitar:
"I came in possession of the '59 left-handed Les Paul back in 1972. A classmate from school needed an amp and I had a spare. He offered to me the left-handed guitar in exchange. He said he had no use for it. It had apparently belonged to his uncle and was found somewhere in his parents house. I already had a black '69 Les Paul Custom at the time, but truly loved the beauty and appearance of the sunburst Les Paul even though I’m right handed. I knew it would be a collectors piece and decided to hang onto it for all these years."
This '59 Les Paul has all of the unmistakable characteristics of a "Burst" such as the flame maple top, the true PAF humbuckers, and the legendary tone.
MODIFICATIONS:
- Tuners: the original tuner buttons disintegrated which is quite normal for these tuners from the '50s. They have been replaced with a new period-correct set. The originals are in the case.
- Tone knob for bridge pickup: replaced
- Pickguard: original is missing
- Small hole drilled in the back. This was done by the owner sometime in the mid-1970s to fix a strap-button so that they could play it right-handed.
