Nothing screams "punk rock" like an old beat up guitar, and this 1965 Stratocaster, owned by Patti Smith guitarist Oliver Ray and played frequently by Patti herself, is the pinnacle of the perfect blend between vintage originality and true play wear.

The mid-60's Stratocaster is an interesting representation of the changes happening to Fender at the time- mainly being purchased by the CBS corporation in 1965. Although many people associate "Pre-CBS" with being the golden age of fender production, this change initially had little to no effect on guitar production. The only noticeable changes at the time this guitar was built was a slight change in logo shape, moving away from the Spaghetti logo of the late-50's. Fender had already adopted the pearl dots, grey bottom pickups and narrower dot spacing between 1963 and 1964. Most changes to Strat design were incremental; the larger headstocks weren't even adopted until late 1965.

All the stuff you want to be original are: pickups, bridge, pickguard, electronics, and even the case!

The nut and middle tone knob have been replaced, and this guitar has been refretted after years of heavy gigging and playing.
