The king of '50s Gibson dreadnoughts! This 1955 Gibson Southern Jumbo is one of our favorite guitars here in the shop. This guitar looks fantastic and is in excellent vintage condition. The classic Gibson model plays incredibly well with a beautifully balanced sound. Delivering both a rich bass response and sparking higher frequencies, this guitar is perfect for just about any role, be it nuanced finger-style playing or powerful strumming.
The original sunburst finish is vibrant and beautifully highlights the instrument's gorgeous spruce top, further accented by classy 7-ply top binding. The back and sides of this guitar have a natural finish, exposing the fine dog-hair grain pattern of the Mahogany. A Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard is paired with a comfortable bound Mahogany neck. The fretboard is inlaid with the iconic Gibson Pearloid split parallelograms. It also has two specs that first appear in 1955: the extended pickguard with a point on the upper bout as well as the Pearloid crown inlay on the headstock veneer.
This guitar has aged beautifully, it has a fantastic patina and authentic light play wear. Finish checking shows that this guitar has been around the block a few times, but the original frets are in great shape, with no visible pitting or heavy wear. This vintage guitar was played, but it has been well maintained for over 70 years! Here at the shop, we feel very lucky to have spent some time with this killer dreadnought and can't wait to find a new home for this awesome vintage guitar.
