Gibson 1940 L-4 Blonde #96011
Super clean! This 1940 Gibson L-4 is in excellent shape, showing very little wear at all. Rudy himself, being such a fan of vintage archtops in particular, loves this guitar. He tells us here at the shop that this L-4 is one of the cleanest 40s L-4s he has encountered and he can't seem to put it down!
THE L-4
Since being introduced by Gibson in 1912, the L-4 went through a number of styling and appointment changes. By the mid-1930s the L-4 was starting to look much more like the 1940 example on display here. These 16" acoustic archtops are a favorite among players looking for that classic unplugged jazzy tones in a very comfortable package.
ABOUT THE INSTRUMENT
This L-4 is a time machine back to 1940 - it's very clean and totally delivers the signature sound of an all-solid wood vintage archtop. We are also pleased to say that this guitar is almost in entirely original condition, with the exception of a reproduction pickguard.
A gorgeous flamed maple body and a spruce top are highlighted by this guitar's natural finish, which was offered for the very first time in 1940 on this model, meaning this guitar was produced in the first year it was offered! This guitar also has the highly collectable 40s style inlay work, including a fleur-de-lis and script "Gibson" logo on the headstock. This guitar has a three-piece neck with some nice figuring, also highlighted by the natural finish. This guitar also has a factory stinger on the back of the headstock. The frets, hardware and binding on this instrument are all original. The pickguard is a reproduction, and it is the only part of this instrument that has been changed.
This guitar comes with the original hardshell case. Come on down and check it out today!
