Originally introduced during a transitional moment SGs still carried the Les Paul name— these instruments were outfitted with a few uncommon features that date them precisely to a fairly narrow date window. The ebony block Maestro™ Vibrola™ system, a visual and tonal rarity seen only on a select few SG Standards and Customs from that specific period, is perhaps the most. This detail alone makes this reissue exceptionally desirable for collectors and players alike.
Built by Gibson’s Custom Shop with painstaking attention to vintage accuracy, this instrument features a lightweight solid mahogany body, SlimTaper mahogany neck, and an ebony fingerboard. The three Custombuckers are voiced for authentic late-’50s/early-’60s PAF tone, delivering everything from thick, rich lows to articulate, singing highs. The middle pickup unlocks that unmistakable out-of-phase tone that defined a generation of expressive, exploratory players—reminiscent of tones used by Hendrix and other pioneers.
