The Martin D-100 Deluxe is, simply put, a masterpiece. To celebrate their 1 millionth serial number, C.F. Martin & Co. designed a guitar to be made in a limited run of 50 that would range from Serial Number 1,000,001 to 1,000,050, all with the same design of intricately inlaid abalone and mother of pearl on both the front and back, to be inlaid by respected company Pearl Works. Each final work of art contains over 1,000 pieces of Awabi, Mother of Pearl, Gold Mother of Pearl, Green Select Abalone, Green Standard Abalone, Green Ripple, Brown Lip, Red Corral, Brass, 14K Gold, Sterling Silver, Copper, and Green Heart Abalone.
This guitar is #22 out of 50. Like most guitars coming from the oldest operating custom shop in acoustic guitar history, it features a gorgeous Adirondack top, with perfectly straight grain. The back and sides are an incredible figured set of Brazilian rosewood, reserved at Martin for only the finest of their custom offerings.
The nut width is 1 3/4", harkening back to the pre-WWII "Golden Age" of Martin's production, along with the forward-shifted bracing reflective of their sought-after pre-war guitars. The neck is a comfortable V shape, again hinting at a more vintage feel.
This guitar is nearly spotless. The individual examples of this edition that we've seen have all been well cared for by their owners, being pieces of history, but this guitar in particular doesn't have a single mark on it.
Serial #1,000,022 comes with the original deluxe Martin hardshell case.
