James "Jimmy" D'Aquisto apprenticed under master luthier John D'Angelico in New York City starting in 1952, and eventually came to be considered one of the greatest archtop builders of our time. This dreadnought is one of only 16 flat top guitars that D'Aquisto built in his lifetime. It has a spruce top and gorgeous flame maple back and sides. Ebony bridge and fingerboard. Unmistakable D'Aquisto design as seen in the shape of the bridge sound hole. 16" lower bout. According to D'Aquisto's ledger, the guitar was completed on 9/10/77 and was originally made for Jake Holmes.

Rudy says, "Jimmy didn't make too many flat tops, but every one I've played has been an absolutely fantastic guitar." Beautiful condition with some lovely checking on the finish. It has had a top crack repair. At some point, the saddle slot was filled with matching ebony to make the saddle sit higher. In 2017, John Monteleone worked on the guitar to repair some cracks and thoroughly go over the instrument. See his personal note to the owner at the time describing the work that was done (in attached photos).

Comes with original hardshell case.
