The Larson brothers (Carl and August) were a pair of Swedish immigrants who came to the U.S. in the late 1880s, landing in Chicago. Originally bouncing from company to company as luthiers, they landed in a good spot of luck when they purchased the Maurer & Company guitar manufacturer in 1900. With this newfound resource, they manufactured guitars for decades under a number of names: Stahl, Maurer, Prairie State, Euphonon, Dyer, and Bruno. Rising in popularity throughout the 1920s-1940s, then dropping off sharply with the advent of electric guitar based music, these Chicago made guitars are often forgot about, despite their incredibly quality.

Having built guitars for almost 40 years, an making every guitar essentially to custom order by the mid 1930's, the Larsons were incredibly ahead of their time, or at least were deeply cognizant of innovations being utilized by other major builders, and were readily applying them to their own guitars. This flat top jumbo sports an X-braced top with a slight arch, a feature innovated in the late 20's meant to replicate the bow of a piece of wood under tension, and helps to accentuate the tone and give a much livelier response. The Brazilian back and sides are stunning, and give this guitar tone and volume to rival any guitar of the era. The mother of pearl and abalone inlays give this guitar an incredible look, extremely reminiscent of the 45 series Martins from the era.

With a nut width a hair under 1 3/4 and a scale length of 25.5, this guitar plays similarly to more popular designs from the era, albeit with a slimmer neck profile than its contemporaries.

This guitar has had a bridge reset in the past, but other than that is in incredible condition. There are very few surviving examples in anywhere near this condition.

Serial #15 comes with a Cedar Creek hard case.
